Best way to buy is when the have really tight firm heads. This way you can ensure you will get to enjoy them for a nice while, they usually last 5 days to a week if they are bought fresh.
Try and see if you can get your hands on the Tasmanian ones as they are magnificent and have the most petals. High altitude and cooler weather is what gets these pretty blooms huge.
Get in fast tho as they only stick around for November. If they are a wedding must have be sure to plan ahead.
